The ESPA is always seeking new volunteers!

Whether as a special event attendant, helping us with our office re-organization and cataloguing project, or on our Board of Directors, we
can always use more warm bodies!

This page is specific to year-round volunteering. If you are interested in Volunteering for the North of Nowhere Expo, go HERE.

See the current calls for volunteers below, and note we'll have more info about NoN Expo volunteering on this page by summer. You can also download our Volunteer Form HERE - print and mail in, or copy and paste the info into an email and send it to our Volunteer Coordinator. We can always use help with our what's new page to find out where we'll be...

Seeking P/T Website Administrator
Hours per month: 5-10 (hours flexible)
Details: Anyone who's been to our website in the last few months knows that we don't update it as often as we should. We're looking for a volunteer who can proactively make minor bi-monthly updates, such as deleting old postings and adding new ones (eg: board & general meetings), and archiving past events (moving postings from the 'what's new' page to the 'past events' page). We need someone who can periodically scan the whole site and request details from the ESPA Board of needed updates. Ability to communicate via email.
Qualifications: Practical knowledge/experience using HTML, CSS, graphic manipulation. Knowledge of both PC and Mac Operating systems an asset. Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement in regards to usage of administrator passwords and other sensitive information.

Seeking P/T Catalogue Administrators
Hours per month: 10-20 (1-2 days/week for min. 4 hours/shift)
Details: After receiving training from the p/t archivist, catalogue administrators will be responsible for adding new materials to the ESPA's online catalogue. Job includes scanning covers and re-formatting images into 2 sizes of thumbnails using Photoshop; visual assessment of items donated, and entering the appropriate item headings into pre-set fields (eg: 'zine' vs. 'comic'), including item dimensions, contact info, short item descriptions, etc.
Qualifications: Mid-level computer experience including basic internet and troubleshooting. Ability to communicate via email. This job involves working alone and reading a fair bit, a great opportunity for zine-lovers who have a healthy interest in zines, comics and associated print materials. Ideal candidates should be able to interpret standard zine formats upon sight (eg: zine vs. mini-comic, digest vs. broadsheet), as well as broadly interpret their contents (eg: GMO vs. globalization vs. feminist). Must be attentive to detail and have decent grammatical skills. Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement in regards to usage of administrator passwords and other sensitive information.

Production Committee Members
Hours per month: 10 (varies, pending upcoming events/projects)
Details: Production Committee Members will work directly with the Artistic Director in producing our public events (art installations, film screenings & cabarets). Pre-event responsibilities might include gathering information for media releases, liasing with advertisers & sponsors, prepping artwork, tabling at (non-ESPA) events, and postering/distributing handbills and other materials. Event responsibilities might include helping set-up, installing artwork, taking admissions, general attendants, and tear-down.
Qualifications: Available and reliable to work some evening & weekend events. Ability to communicate via email. Vehicle an asset (gas/mileage may be subsidized by ESPA).

General Office Volunteers
Hours per month: 10-20 (1-2 days/week for min. 4 hours/shift)
Details: General Office Volunteers are needed to literally hang out in the ESPA office (Stanley Milner Library), so that we can start advertising consistent open office hours and increase our accessibility. Minor duties spent passing the time might include membership mail prep, logging of hard-copy catalogue materials that need re-ordering or re-printing, and other minor office duties.
Qualifications: Available and reliable to work at least 1 afternoon/week (approx. noon-6pm), preferably the same day every week; friendly enough to be able to meet & greet people who drop by, give them more info about ESPA's general operating activities, including liasing with Our Voice vendors on occasion. Good volunteer job for a student (time can be used to study, etc.). Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement in regards to usage of office key, etc.
